WAKA values - This week we are learning about how Wakaaranga got its name. We are learning about the 3 trees, Wakaaranga's history and all about the waka taking us on our learning journey. Today we went and looked at the 3 trees out the front of the school. Here are a few photos of room 1b checking out how large these trees are.

To celebrate World Environmental Day, year 3 became gardeners for the day helping to replenish our Native Tree area. We learnt about how mulch adds nutrients to the ground and helps the plants to grow. It was great fun, a little stinky but we all enjoyed helping each other, making our school and world a better place to live! Well done everyone!
Today students from Farm Cove Intermediate came and trialed some mathematics questions with Mrs Martin's Y3 maths class. They had developed for use with Year 3 and 4 students. It was a wonderful experience for all the students involved.
Meet the Teacher Evening - For those of you who were unable to attend on the night. I have attached the Powerpoint that was shared by the year 3 teachers
Chinese festival visit Wow, what an amazing performance! On the 9th of March a group of visitors from China came to Wakaaranga to preform a music show on stage in our school hall. They came to teach us about Chinese culture and a special instrument called the 'Hulu-si'. The' Hulu-si' is the cultural instrument of a province in China. The man and ladies both wore traditional costumes and dresses. One of my favourite songs they played was called 'The Lonely Horse'. I liked it because they imitated the sounds of a horse on the instrument and the main part of the song took place in a natural environment. I was lucky to be picked to get my own 'Hulu-si' and get to keep it. After my very first lesson I was able to play Mary had a little lamb. I think it's really cool because under the 'Hulu-si' there are two little levers and if you push one it makes a sound similar to ooooooooooooooo and the other one makes a sound like a trumpet. If you play both sounds together it sounds really nice. The best part is I get to keep my instrument forever. Alan Chen
Soccer Fun - Check out our soccer photos from our session with Football Kidz NZ skills. The children had great fun dribbling - playing games like shark attack and cowboys and indians! If you would like your child to take part in the lunchtime coaching clinics held over the next 5 weeks at lunchtime - check out the notice in your child's book bag.
